Teen Arrested After Riding Dirt Bike, Taking Police On Chase In Area

A Rockland County teenager was arrested after taking officers on a short chase when he was busted for driving a dirt bike without a helmet on.

Officers from the Ramapo Police Department on patrol on Route 202 on Wednesday, Dec. 16 spotted an unregistered dirt bike being driven by a minor who was not wearing a helmet.

When the officer attempted to stop the teen, he dismounted the dirt bike and fled into a wooded area nearby, police said, prompting a short foot chase that led to the apprehension of the minor without further incident.

The teen was charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He was also issued nine traffic tickets before being released without bail.

According to police, investigators are attempting to determine the actual owner of the dirt bike, which potentially was stolen.

Police in Ramapo noted: “We will continue to address the concerns of our residents regarding illegal ATV’s dirt bikes being operated on public roadways.”
